Hexagonal Porcelain Pavers
Archatrak hexagonal porcelain pavers feature the classic hexagon shape – an equilateral hexagon with all six sides the same length, all and angles at 120 degrees, typified by a beehive honeycomb. Despite the hexagon shape, they are exceptionally easy to install pavers because of their uniform angles and dimensions. In paved areas, their unique laying pattern is much more intriguing and less harsh than the 90-degree angles of rectangular or square pavers which thus adds a distinct visual appeal to both broad public plazas and residential landscaping.
Benefits of porcelain hexagon pavers vs concrete hexagon pavers
Hexagonal porcelain pavers have the same technical characteristics and features that make our square and rectangular 2cm porcelain pavers so appealing – excellent resistance to staining, scratching, scuffing and frost damage, and availability in a range of stone look colors that cannot be matched by concrete. With rectified edges and precise dimensions, these 3/4″ thick hexagon outdoor pavers create sharp honeycomb patterns that bring a new dimension to on-grade paving applications, from expansive plazas to single hexagonal ‘stepping stones’ set among gravel or grass.
Standout applications for hexagonal porcelain pavers
Hexagon shaped porcelain pavers can look very effective if used in a landscaped area with pebbles or crushed rock around the perimeter. In this situation, the hexagonal paving slabs are not cut, but are allowed to drift into the pebbled area.
You can also make very stylish patio designs using a combination of darker and lighter hexagonal pavers, especially where the installation ranges from a dark color at one end to a lighter color at the other. This pattern works much more effectively and naturally than with square or rectangular outdoor patio pavers.
Another very common use is to use these hexagonal paving slabs as ‘stepping stones’ for pathways or set among grass.
Roof deck installations with hexagonal porcelain pavers
On elevated roof decks, it is not normally practical or cost effective to support hexagonal pavers directly with adjustable deck pedestals because pedestals would have to be positioned at all six corners. Also, there is potentially an issue with small cut triangular pieces being left at the boundary walls, which would be difficult to support.
However, hexagonal porcelain pavers can be laid successfully on rooftops using our pedestal supported SpanTrak fiberglass grating panels where the hexagonal pavers are placed over the panels, on top of a 1/8″ thick mat of recycled rubber for noise suppression and using ‘Y’ shaped spacers (available from several online suppliers) to correctly space the pavers.

Key Advantages of Archatrak Hexagonal Porcelain Pavers

FAQ
What are the benefits of using hexagonal porcelain pavers for outdoor spaces?
Hexagonal porcelain pavers offer a unique geometric aesthetic that enhances the visual appeal of outdoor areas. They are highly durable, weather-resistant, and provide a non-slip surface, making them ideal for patios, walkways, and pool surrounds. Additionally, their precise dimensions allow for seamless installation and creative design patterns.
What special considerations are necessary in laying hexagonal porcelain pavers?
The primary consideration to note is that hexagon outdoor pavers heed to be cut on one side if they are being laid up against a wall or restraining barrier. This also requires a bit of planning if there is a wall on the opposite side as you want to avoid being left with small triangular gaps that need to be infilled with cut pavers.
How do hexagonal porcelain pavers compare to traditional square or rectangular pavers?
Hexagonal pavers provide a distinctive, modern look that sets them apart from traditional shapes. Their six-sided design allows for more intricate and visually interesting layouts. Functionally, they offer the same durability and low maintenance as other porcelain pavers but with added design versatility.
Are Archatrak’s hexagonal porcelain pavers suitable for all climates?
Yes, Archatrak’s hexagonal porcelain pavers are designed to withstand various climatic conditions. For most applications, Archatrak hexagonal porcelain pavers can be dry laid dry by simply placing them in the desired position over a well compacted sand/gravel bed, without the need for any mortar, adhesives or concrete base.
The general installation method is similar to the 2cm porcelain paver installation method as described in our notes for installation over sand or gravel beds, except that ‘Y’ shaped spacers are required when laying rather than cross shaped spacers.
