Installation – Pavers on Pedestal Supported Aluminum Rails
Surfaces should be solid, clean and sloping slightly for drainage. A solid perimeter containment such as a parapet wall on a rooftop deck, is normally required to prevent the elevated surface from moving, depending on the proposed deck height.
Installation Guidelines
Mark out horizontal lines 24” apart over the area to be laid using chalk.
Mark the approx. location for placing Archatrak ‘Prime’ or 'NM' pedestals along these lines, also at 24” spacing, to form a grid. Pedestals around the perimeter should be placed as close to the containment wall as possible.
Calculate the number of porcelain planks required to span the area and optimize their positioning so no plank at either side is cut less than 4” in width. Be sure to include the tab widths in any calculations.
Place the pedestals in the position previously marked with chalk, selecting the appropriate height pedestal to ensure a final level surface.
Place the aluminum beams over the special pedestal heads which secure the rails in position. The end of each rail should be centered on a pedestal head. Check for level as each rail is installed. Rails are installed in a parallel array with 24” between each rail on center.
Once all the rails are level, insert the paver cross spacers in the channel between the rail tubes.
Roll out self-adhesive rubber strips along the top of both rail tubes.
Lay the porcelain planks perpendicular to the hollow beams, separated by the cross spacers and resting on the rubber strips.
Complete laying the deck in a likewise manner, ensuring the ends of each plank are located on the center of a rail.
